In this post we will create a cube based on DSV already created in last post. You have to follow the wizard steps by using DSV created in our last post. I assume readers know the structure of Adventure Work DW 2008. Once cube is created in BIDS we have to deploy it to the Analysis Services.

I faced connectivity issues to Analysis services on deploying Cube, when I only have the SQL Server 2008 Express edition. It is not easy to find what can be achieved with SQL Server 2008 Express edition only. So I downloaded the Sql Server 2008 evaluation edition and then tried to deploy the cube and it worked.

I would say there are lot of efforts we have to put with Microsoft products, because Microsoft’s documentation is significantly lacking information as compare to open source project documentations which are almost perfect. Now we have deployed the cube it and can be browsed by right clicking on Cube under the Solution explorer.

In these posts main goal was to show what problems I faced in installing Sql Server 2008 Evaluation, and Express Editions. Hands on experience with Business intelligence studio, analysis services project, up to this point everything works OK and a lot can be learned by doing experimentation with “Adventure Work DW 2008” sample database.

As mentioned in my previous post that I installed the Sql Server 2008 Express and Sql Services Evaluation edition (180) days.
Today I would like to share my first hand knowledge of creating Analysis Services Project. Few words about Analysis Services and Role of Sql Server 2008. Sql Server is Business intelligence platform and analysis services 2008 is the multidimensional databases engine.

To begin designing analysis services database, I created a Analysis Services project. Just follow the steps to create a new Analysis Services project and name your project. After accomplishing that I created the Cube based on sample database AdventureWork DW 2008. You will find Data source, Data source views, cubes options under solution explorer Windsor of the Analysis project.

Steps

1-	Create new data source by selecting data source folder
2-	Create Data Source views by right clicking and it connected to the Adventure Works DW 2008 based on data source in step 1.

I will be writing more on this topic in coming posts.
